3D Projects
I create 3D ownships in Blender for Garmin's avionics suite. These custom models replicate OEM aircraft, and are loaded into the software to show the aircraft in a 3D top-down view while the pilot is taxiing. They are also rendered as images that show where the aircraft is on the map, HSI and VSD, for better situational awareness and OEM configurability.
To work in our software, models must be low poly — fewer than 10k polygons — so each one is a fun exercise in balancing detail against performance. To date I've created over 25 models, ranging from small two-seat airplanes to private jets, some of which are flying today!
During my typography class at MCAD I explored 3D in several projects too. These are some of my favorite results.
